Luxury builder recommends DNA for smart-home automation system on Myrtle Bank project

“We are extremely happy that we were able to customise the build to suit our lifestyle perfectly”
— Mr. Bugg

SITUATION

Mr. Bugg, a recently retired Sales Director, commissioned a new single-story open-living establishment in Adelaide eastern suburb Myrtle Bank, situated within the affluent city council of Unley. Exclusive builder Daniel Jordan Homes, who take on limited projects, selected DNA Electrical as their preferred partner on the 450 m2 property. DNA’s can-do attitude, premium workmanship and specialisation in smart-home automation were all factors in the clients’ decision to hire them.

TASK

DNA were tasked with designing, installing and testing complicated automation systems throughout the luxurious 5-bedroom, 2-bathroom home, which comprised powder room, walk-in-robe, ensuite, butler’s pantry, and home theatre room. In addition, electrical work was required for indoor-outdoor areas including kitchen, lap pool, and zen garden. Mr. Bugg’s main objective was to simplify his home life by controlling home entertainment, temperature, lighting and blinds using the latest technology in smart home automation.

ACTION

Work commenced in March 2016 with DNA deploying a large team of five electrical experts — site supervisor, leading-hand, tradesman and two apprentices. From skylights to security programming, bathroom window frosts to outdoor heating, quality componentry was installed throughout the premises including the following (but not limited to):

  • 141 lighting points

  • 68 C-Bus controlled lighting groups

  • 62 double power outlets

  • 11 automated C-Bus blind controllers

  • 4 zones of garden lighting

  • 3 motion sensors

  • 3 C-bus controlled skylights

  • 2 zones of under floor heating

  • 2 zones of pool lighting

  • 2 radiant heating panels within alfresco ceiling

RESULTS

DNA finalised testing of all electrical systems on the Myrtle Bank property in March 2017, fulfilling the project timeline and budget requirements. Upon completion, Mr. Bugg said “I’m very pleased with the level of expertise and professionalism that DNA displayed. This project was complex, and we are extremely happy that we were able to customise the build to suit our lifestyle perfectly”.

When asked what pleased him most about the smart home system, Mr. Bugg said “It’s so satisfying that now I can press a single button to control otherwise time consuming or complicated tasks. Multiple remote controls are a thing of the past,” said Mr. Bugg. In addition, Mr Bugg commended DNA’s attention to detail, like clearly labelling switches and applications to make it easy and convenient for any friends or family members visiting to pick up and use.

Mr. Bugg said DNA’s smart home system made him feel more relaxed and in control. “The master-off switch beside our bed is a real time-saver. Now there’s no need to check every room at night to see whether someone has left the lights on. I sleep much easier these days,” said Mr. Bugg.
